Getting Started

If you want to buy a Bluebird, here's what you should know.

Average price
Fibreglass versions can sell for from 4 to 7 plus thousand depending on condition & inventory. Earlier plywood versions go for something less but also have a wide price range.

Slipping fees
If an owner is a member of Hobsons Bay Yacht Club and their Bluebird is on the club register the slipping fees are very reasonable at around $120. The first three weeks up are free but a storage charge is applied after that. Hardstand storage and marina pens are also available but a waiting list applies. Other clubs will have different rates.

HBYC membership fees
For the 2015/16 season the senior membership fee is $850. which includes the Yachting Victoria / Yachting Australia Silver Card levy and GST. This compares favourably with other clubs with similar facilities.

Insurance
Clubs require that insurance must be taken out with a racing cover if racing . However this is usually below $200 depending on the insured value.

Mooring costs
When available, moorings usually sell for around $800 to $1000 and must show proof of their biannual survey report to Parks Victoria. The annual rate is $85 for moorings in the areas for yachts up to 25 feet. Moorings can often be rented privately or through the club.
